DERRY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS

St. Mary’s Cross Country team travelled to University of Ulster, Coleraine on Wednesday 5 February 2014 to take part in the Derry Cross Country Championships with a number of pupils qualifying for the Ulster Finals which are scheduled for Tuesday 11th February in Mallusk.​

SPORTS HALL ATHLETICS

A large number of medals were gathered by St. Mary’s pupils at the Derry Sports Hall Athletics Championship which was held in Meadowbank Arena on Thursday 6 February 2014.​  ​32 Year 8 – 10 boys and girls entered the competition and took part in a number of events each throughout the day. After excelling in the Cross Country Championships, Aidan McCloskey gathered a remarkable 7 medals. Courtney Quinn, John McElhone, Adam Connolly, Aislinn Craig also took honours from the day’s proceedings. All the relay teams did particularly well, gaining 8 placings from a possible 12 races.

YEAR 9 NETBALL

The St. Mary’s Year 9 Netball Team took on Magherafelt High School in their first game of the league on Tuesday 4 February 2014. The girls were defeated on a 7-4 score line but finished the game strongly with high hopes for the next game against St Killians, Garron Tower.​​

KEEPING UP WITH THE TRADITION

​Following their success in the early stages of the Gael Linn competition, St Mary’s traditional music group, Cóiriú, were successful in  the provincial final of the Siansa competition held in the Four Season’s Hotel, Monaghan on 7 February 2014. They will now compete in the All Ireland Final.
