St. Mary’s Grammar School, Magherafelt has established a new Fair Trade Committee. Led by Miss Burns, Head of Religion, and Miss McGouran, Head of Citizenship, the committee will organise events to raise awareness of Fair Trade throughout the school and work towards becoming an accredited Fair Trade School. Throughout ‘Fair Trade Fortnight’, awareness of fair trade matters has been promoted through assemblies, lessons and food tasting events.
The committee is currently
undertaking its first task of auditing pupils and staff to evaluate how ‘fairly traded’ St. Mary’s Grammar School is at present. Fair Trade is about justice and making the right choices. Students will learn about the lives of children in other parts of the world. They will make comparisons and grow in understanding that people around the world have similar needs and values.
