ST. MARY’S HOSTS LAUNCH OF LINEN HALL LIBRARY WEBSITE
St. Mary’s Grammar School, Magherafelt was the venue for the Linen Hall Library’s recent launch of Digital Theatre Archive, an online digital resource containing over 2500 local theatre programmes, handbills and plays dating back to the late 18th century.
In partnership with the Ulster Bank, the Linen Hall Library has been able to digitise a substantial part of its unique Theatre and Performing Arts Archive, resulting in the creation of a dedicated website. With support from Arts and Business NI, the Library developed an exciting outreach programme for schools across Northern Ireland. As a school with an outstanding reputation in Drama, St. Mary’s was selected as one of only ten schools in Northern Ireland to host one of the Library’s launch events.
Facilitated by Mr Arthur Webb, Arts Adviser and Chief Examiner for Drama in Northern Ireland, the launch event included a presentation to current students of Drama, Performing Arts and Theatre Studies in the school which outlined the unique educational, cultural and historical benefits of the new website. Students’ contributions to the future development of this exciting research tool were also sought.
