Friday 8 November 2024 INVESTORS IN MENTAL HEALTH GOLD AWARD FOR ST. MARY'S St. Mary’s Grammar School, Magherafelt has been presented with a Gold Award in the Aware NI Investors in Mental Health Awards 2024 in the Recognising Education category. These awards aim to provide recognition to schools who are making a significant contribution to the promotion of positive mental health in Northern Ireland.

Monday 4 November 2024 Lá Eorpach na dTeangacha Representatives from the Irish department were delighted to pay visit to St. Patrick’s Primary, New Row and Gaelscoil an tSeanchaí where they engaged students in exciting language lessons giving them a flavour of the wonderful language learning opportunities provided in St. Mary’s Grammar School.

Monday 4 November 2024 GAEL LINN QUIZ Year 10 students of Irish recently travelled to the Glenavon House Hotel to participate in the annual Gael Linn Tráth na gCeist. Over 350 students took part in the event from schools across Mid-Ulster. The quiz, conducted through the medium of Irish, covered topics such as Tíreolaíocht, Spóirt, Ceol and Daoine Cailiúla giving students the opportunity to demonstrate their wide range of knowledge as Gaeilge! We are delighted to note that St. Mary’s students excelled and even managed to take 1st place on the day. A huge COMHGHAIRDEAS to Róisín Bradley, Cora McPeake, Cliodhna Moore, Ella Kearney who formed the winning team and we wish them every success as they progress to the Ulster Final in the New Year.

Monday 4 November 2024 Turas Gaeltachta 2024 A Level Irish students enjoyed an actioned packed visit to the Gweedore Gaeltacht region recently in partnership with St. Louis’ Grammar School, Ballymena. As part of their course of study, A2 students of Irish engage with research and discussion about the rich culture, history and heritage of Ceantar Ghaoth Dobhair and a residential visit forms an integral part of this experience.

Friday 11 October 2024 Geo Energy Discovery Centre On Wednesday 9 October 2024, St Mary’s had the pleasure of hosting the Geo Energy Discovery Centre, offering an exciting opportunity for local pupils to delve into the fascinating world of geothermal energy. Students from Magherafelt Primary School, Sperrin Integrated College, Rainey Endowed, and Holy Family Primary School visited the event, excited to explore the incredible potential of geothermal energy in Northern Ireland.

Thursday 22 August 2024 ST. MARY'S STUDENTS EXCEL IN GCSE EXAMINATIONS- 2024 Students at St. Mary’s Grammar School, Magherafelt have again excelled in GCSE examinations. Following the publication of results, Mr Paul McClean, Principal, described the grades achieved by students as “truly fantastic” and reported that 97.5% of students achieved A*-C grades in at least 7 subjects, including English and Mathematics. An impressive 63% of all grades were A*-A.
