Sunday Times Secondary School of the Year 2023

St. Mary's Grammar School

Sixth Form

St. Mary’s is the school of choice for a large number of internal and external students interested in pursuing Sixth Form study.

At St. Mary’s we recognise we have the privilege of supporting and developing each pupil to reach their fullest potential.  Academic progress is essential to maximising life chances, however we also believe that we have a duty to help our young people shape their values system, to develop confidence in themselves, as well as a great respect for self and those around them.  We want our young people to look for, and find, greatness in themselves.

We work to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their academic potential while developing leadership skills, participating in the co-curriculum, and giving back to the school and wider community.

Our Sixth Form students lead the school’s participation in volunteering opportunities, fundraising initiatives, competitions and awareness raising events.  They have the opportunity to join educational trips to New York, France, Spain, Poland and more.  Sixth Form in St. Mary’s is a place where friendships are forged, students are challenged, and life is dynamic.

In addition to the high percentage of St. Mary’s pupils who choose to return to the school following GCSE study, many students from other post-primary schools within the school’s catchment area, also seek admission to St. Mary’s Sixth Form. Details of the admissions criteria and application process for entry to Sixth Form can be found here.
