Geo Energy Discovery Centre
On Wednesday 9 October 2024, St Mary’s had the pleasure of hosting the Geo Energy Discovery Centre, offering an exciting opportunity for local pupils to delve into the fascinating world of geothermal energy. Students from Magherafelt Primary School, Sperrin Integrated College, Rainey Endowed, and Holy Family Primary School visited the event, excited to explore the incredible potential of geothermal energy in Northern Ireland.
The day was filled with engaging geology experiments and insightful information, provided by passionate Geo Ambassadors. Pupils showed great enthusiasm as they learned about how geothermal energy works and the promising role it can play in our region’s future energy solutions.
One of the highlights of the event was the VR headsets, which gave students an immersive experience in understanding geothermal systems. The use of technology captivated everyone’s attention, adding a fun, hands-on dimension to the learning process.
A special thank you to the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council for his support, as well as the participating schools and students, whose interest and curiosity made the day a true success. It’s inspiring to see young minds engage with sustainable energy solutions, and we look forward to more initiatives like this in the future.
