ST. MARY’S STUDENTS EXCEL IN GCSE EXAMINATIONS- 2024

Students at St. Mary’s Grammar School, Magherafelt have again excelled in GCSE examinations.  Following the publication of results, Mr Paul McClean, Principal, described the grades achieved by students as “truly fantastic” and reported that 97.5% of students achieved A*-C grades in at least 7 subjects, including English and Mathematics.  An impressive 63% of all grades were A*-A.

Expressing his pride in students, Mr McClean commented: “It is so pleasing to see our young people achieve the success they deserve.  The hard work and commitment of students, the expertise and guidance of staff, and the support and encouragement of parents and carers have all contributed to such excellent examination outcomes.  I am very proud of the achievements of these students.  These strong academic portfolios will provide them with the opportunity to pursue their chosen post-16 pathway and continue to work towards the realisation of future aspirations.  I congratulate each of them and encourage them to maintain their focus and motivation as they embark upon the next phase of their learning and development journey.

We are very proud of the outcomes that these young people have achieved, though more proud of the way they have carried themselves over the last five years and the values and care they have demonstrated.  These students were, in my opinion, those that were most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, experiencing disruptive lockdowns in both their first and second years at St. Mary’s.  That said, they have continually shown determination, spirit, and camaraderie, and I am delighted to see so many smiling faces here today.

On our students behalf, I would like to thank our teaching and support staff, who have played a tremendous role in supporting these young people to reach their full potential.  The reward is enjoyed upon opening the envelope this morning, however these grades are earned on the late nights of pupil study, teacher marking, and our support staff working to ensure the high standards of St. Mary’s are consistently met.  Well done and congratulations to all involved.”
