INSPIRING LIVES – CREATING FUTURES

On 15 November 2013, research teams from Queen’s University, Belfast visited St. Mary’s as part of the Research Council UK School-University Partnership Initiative.​  ​The ‘Inspiring Lives – Creating Futures’ programme engaged Year 9 pupils from across the Magherafelt Learning Partnership in a series of workshops. The Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology delivered a workshop titled ‘Cancer – From Discovery to Recovery.’ The Sonic Arts Research Centre workshop focused on ‘Creative Technologies’ while the School of Pharmacy workshop explored ‘Drug Development – From Concept to Clinic.’

​On Friday 22nd November 2013, the corridors of St. Mary’s came alive to the sound of music as the Music Department marked the Feast Day of St. Cecelia, the Patron Saint of Music, with a Celebration of Music Day. The event was organised to raise funds for Action Cancer.

ANNUAL SHOEBOX APPEAL

Our Year 8 pupils demonstrated great generosity in their response to this year’s Shoebox Appeal.​  With the help of their Form Teachers and Mrs McComb, pupils donated over 60 shoeboxes and £105 to help put a smile on the faces of children in Croatia, Romania and Bosnia who would not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas.​
