MADRID TRIP DECEMBER 2013

Eight Year 12 Spanish students set off on the first part of our Spanish exchange visit just before Christmas. For eight months we had been in regular contact with our friends in Colegio Aristos via videoconferencing. It is thanks to Mr Luis Garcia, C2K, that this link was established.

ST. MARY’S STUDENTS TOP OF THE CLASS

Following the publication of examination results in August, we were pleased to learn that a number of St. Mary’s pupils achieved top places in Northern Ireland in this year’s GCSE and A Level examinations.  ​At GCSE, Niamh McGarry achieved First Place in PE, Hannah Lydon achieved Second Place in PE, Maria Lagan achieved Second Place in Chemistry, Orlaith McAteer achieved Third Place (joint) in Irish and Emma McKay achieved full marks in GCSE Art and Design. At A Level, Conor McGurk achieved Second Place in Technology and Design. Huge congratulations to each of them. We wish them continued success in their future studies.

MORE POWER TO ST. MARY’S

​Each year, The Sunday Times presents ‘Parent Power’ – its guide to the top performing schools in the UK.  In 2013, St. Mary’s was ranked Sixth Place in the Top 10 State Secondary Schools in Northern Ireland. Rising seven places from 2012, the school was ranked 60th in the Top 100 State Secondary schools in the UK. This is a great achievement of which the whole school community can be proud.

On 25 November 2013, Year 8 students went to the polls to elect their Year 8 Student Council Representative. Running for election were Sara Lanao-Madden, Sean Cassidy, Colm Devlin, Thomas Mallon and Declan Murray.​
