SUCCESS IN NATIONAL POSTER COMPETITION

Year 9 pupils took part in the National Competition “inspire>aspire Global citizens in the making” poster competition last year to celebrate the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. It provided pupils with an opportunity for self-discovery and personal development, enabling them to think about what is important in life and about the values and qualities they will need to make a success of their own future.

Mark O’Connor from Saturn LED is pictured presenting a set of playing and training jerseys to the St Mary’s MacRory Cup team. Mark is a former Rannafast Cup winner with the school and his support for our senior football team is most appreciated. Also pictured are Mrs D Gillespie (principal), Niall Keenan (MacRory Cup captain), Mr John McElholm and Mr Kevin Brady from the PE Department/coaching staff.

NEBSSA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014

Thirty six students from Years 8-10 represented St Mary’s at the NEBSSA Cross Country Championships on 27 November at Ulster University, Coleraine. Participating against all schools in the North Eastern Board, the pupils were placed as following in the team events: Year 9 Girls- 3rd place; Year 9 Boys- 5th place; Year 10 Girls- 7th place and Year 10 Boys- 6th place

CHEMISTRY AT WORK

A group of Year 12 students recently attended the Chemistry at Work Exhibition organised by Queen’s University, Belfast. This exciting event provided students with the opportunity to experience how local and international companies use Chemistry every day in the workplace. Some examples included: the use of fingerprinting in Forensic Science; the use of colorimetry in the development of hair colouring; the latest technology in the use of composites for the design and development of aeroplanes; the control of the acidity in our soil; and, the micro development of the read/write technology for computer hard drives.

WORKING TOWARDS INVESTORS IN PUPILS

St Mary’s are working with the Investors in Pupils programme. The programme provides a unique pupil participation framework to empower all pupils, increase their motivation and contribute to the raising of achievement across the Key Stages.

We hope the programme will provide our pupils with opportunities to develop further their decision-making and leadership skills.

Congratulations to the Cast and Production Teams involved in St. Mary’s hugely successful production of Meet Me in St. Louis. What a wonderful week it was for everyone! You delighted audiences throughout the week and were truly deserving of the rapturous applause and standing ovation you received following each performance. The St. Mary’s community is very proud of you!
