CAFÉ SAINTE MARIE JUNIOR

​After the success of Café Sainte Marie with its KS4 and 5 pupils, the French department opened its doors to its Year 10 pupils. Café Sainte Marie Junior was open on Wed 10 and 17 December and proved to be a roaring success with pupils. The café allowed French pupils to experience a taste of France – des beignets (donuts), du chocolat chaud (hot chocolate), de la tarte aux pommes (apple tart) et bien encore plus (and much more!). The café will open again in the new year. Merci à tous!

STARS IN OUR EYES

​Congratulations to three of our footballers who have each achieved the great honour of an Ulster Colleges’ All-Star. They are: Callum Mullan-Young (Goalkeeper), Niall Keenan (Corner back) and Conor Small (Right-half forward). Mr Brady and Mr Conway added, “This is a tremendous achievement for the boys, and the school in general, to be recognised as three of the best young Gaelic footballers in Ulster. They attended the launch of the All-Stars on Monday 15 December but will be more formally recognised in the new year with an awards ceremony at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.”

FRENCH CLUB

​Le Club Français rounded off its first term with a crêpe party. The chef was our very own assistant, Luc Mondet. It must be said that the crêpes were “delicieux”. It was the perfect end to a very busy term. French Club will be back in the new year and we hope that Luc’s pancakes make a return also! Bravo et merci à tous.

SAUVONS L’ENVIRONNEMENT – FRENCH ECO POSTER COMPETITION

​Not to be outdone by their Year 10 counterparts, our Year 12 pupils took part in an Environmental Poster competition in November. The best posters were sent off to our assistant Luc’s former school, Lycée Fénelon Notre Dame, and we will be receiving some of their best entries also. These posters will be on display in the French department. The standard of entries was very high and there was much deliberation as to who the winner would be! In the end … was chosen. Well done, …!  Congratulations to all our Year 12 pupils for their fantastic work and thanks also to Miss Donoghue, Miss Venot and Miss MacOscar for all their work also! Bravo à tous!

TREE HOUSE FUN

House members were asked to donate some decorations for their House Christmas Tree.  Year 8 was the year group chosen to help the House Captains to decorate the House Christmas Trees.  The morning began with Mrs Higgins, the Senior House Mistress, giving an overview of the background to the St. Mary’s Pastoral House System. Year 8 also enjoyed participating in some fun activities with the House Captains and House Masters/Mistresses.

IPADS HAVE ARRIVED!!

The roll out of iPads for Year 8, 9 and 13 pupils began on 16 December 17 December.  It was as if Christmas had come early!
