CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE AND THANKSGIVING

St Marys hosted a very special evening on Tuesday 9th June. It began with a MASS OF CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE AND THANKSGIVING which was celebrated by Monsignor C O’Byrne and concelebrated by Fr J Gates. At the close of the mass, Principal Mrs D Gillespie, extended her gratitude to both celebrants and the RE and Music departments for organising a very fitting mass.

FRIDAY TREATS

For a few months in the year, staff in school engage in what could be described as the SMG Bake Off. Once again, the charity guru Miss McKillop, co-ordinates proceedings. Staff bake and bring their culinary delights to the staffroom every Friday; those who sample the scrumptious, delicious Friday Treats then donate some money to a chosen charity: this year’s charity is the very worthy MacMillan Cancer Care. Staff probably gained a few pounds but they also raised more than £1000.

TRIP TO CATALONIA JUNE 2015

61 pupils from Years 9 and 10, accompanied by 8 teachers, recently had the opportunity to spend 5 days in the region of Catalonia in North-eastern Spain. It was a fun-filled experience which included a visit to the famous football stadium Camp Nou and Barcelona aquarium. They also spent a full day in PortAventura Theme Park. Other favourite activities included swimming in the hotel pool and playing volleyball on the beach at night followed by a refreshing ice-cream. They also travelled by cable car up to the Cistercian Monastery of Montserrat and took photographs of the magnificent views from the top of the 1236 metres high mountain.

INSPIRATIONAL INNOVATORS

​The Sentinus Young Innovators day was held recently in University of Ulster, Jordanstown. Seven pupils attended: from Year 13- Conor Shaw, Niamh Hughes and Patsy Walls; and from Year 14- Jake McAteer, Karl Rocks, Charlotte O’Kane and Simon Kalla. Patsy Walls won one award (Crest Gold Technology Award) and £75 for his AS project (Wire Tensioner- A device for tightening barbed wire on a fence).
