Year 8 Transition Support
We recognise the significance of the transfer from primary to post-primary school, for both pupils and families, and we seek to support a smooth transition.
As part of our Transition Programme, we will:
- visit our partner primary schools to meet with our transferring pupils and their primary school teachers;
- provide a Taster Afternoon for transferring pupils during which they will have an opportunity to meet other transferring pupils and members of St. Mary’s staff, and participate in a range of activities;
- hold an Induction Evening in June for the parents/carers of transferring pupils during which they will receive key information and have an opportunity to meet the Year 8 Pastoral Team;
- provide Familiarisation and Icebreaker Days in August for transferring pupils;
- invite parents to attend a Parents' Information Session in Term 1;
- run a GAA Class League in the first few months of Year 8;
- hold a Teambuilding Activity Day in September for all Year 8 pupils; and
- offer the parents/carers of Year 8 pupils the opportunity to attend a Transition Review Meeting with their child’s Form Teacher during the first half-term.
"My child has had an excellent Year 8 experience in St. Mary’s. The transition and settling in was extremely smooth. The academic and extra-curricular opportunities are outstanding."
